Sally Hayden

Sally Hayden is an award-winning Irish journalist and photographer currently focused on migration, conflict and humanitarian crises. She is also an adjunct professor at the UCD Sutherland School of Law. Her work has been published in The Irish Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian, and other international publications.

Hayden’s first book, “My Fourth Time, We Drowned: Seeking Refuge on the World’s Deadliest Migration Route”, was published in 2022 and won the non-fiction book of the year at the Irish Book Awards. It tells the story of her journey along the Eastern Mediterranean migration route, where she met with refugees and migrants who were risking their lives to reach Europe.

Hayden is a passionate advocate for human rights and has spoken out against the treatment of refugees and migrants around the world. She is also a strong supporter of women’s rights and has written about the experiences of women living in conflict zones.

In addition to her work as a journalist and photographer, Hayden is also a filmmaker. Her documentary, “Bobi Wine: The People’s President”, tells the story of Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine.

Hayden is a powerful voice for those who are often unheard. Her work is essential in raising awareness of the human cost of conflict and migration.
